Participatory site-specific installation for
the ADA Symposium in Nelson 2022
cardboard, acrylic paint, 2200x2200x1700 mm
Connect was a participatory installation inviting the symposium visitors to create a sculpture out of over 400 interlocking cardboard disks. The elements also connected to the architectural elements in the NMIT G-Block, investigating not only our interpersonal connections but also the connections to our surroundings. It was presented with cloudlike starting points and a pile of circles on the floor. This unfinished aesthetic combined with the artist statement aims at engaging the viewer and initiating the building process, transforming the passive viewer into an active participant.
Connect attempts to translate the digital infrastructure into an analogue object.
It is a celebration of the in-person networking this symposium offered and a reminder that our analogue human interactions are the essence of all networks and as essential as our digital connectedness.
